A reply was received from Uniting Care Wesley in response to Chamber’s request that as much local work as possible be let to local contractors. Uniting Care assured Chamber that they use as many locals as possible and will continue to do so. This was a pleasing response from this organisation, which in recent years has expanded its operations.
President Mark reported that he had spoken with a representative of Business Port Augusta (equivalent of Chamber) and of their successful promotions including a twice yearly open market. The President also said the Business Port Augusta receive $30,000 a year from council to help with promotions.
The executive discussed whether it was also time for a name change. Many felt “Port Pirie Chamber of Commerce and Industry” was a bit outdated.

Helen Grace reported that she was frustrated with traders and their respone to the “Sidewalk Sale.”
President reported that Lucy Connor of Bank SA wanted to become a member and that she was keen to join the executive. The executive agreed to have Lucy come on board. President said Toll also indicated it wanted to become a member. Secretary Ken also said there was interest from Westpac.
